How it Works
Save Animals International is one of our gift-giving campaigns. Instead of giving a “gift-pig” or other animal from a group such as Heifer Intenational, your gift to SAI will save that pig by supporting on-the-ground animal protection projects. Both those that provide immediate assistance and those that provide long-term community solutions.
Below are the projects equally funded by your donation. When donating, just choose “Tribute – In Honor Of” and “Save Animals International” – it’s that easy!
How We Acknowledge Your Gift
Donate $10 or more and we’ll mail a beautiful gift card to your honoree.
Big on heart but short on funds? We’ll donate $10 on your behalf and still send a card to show you care and raise awareness. Just e-mail us the details.
Donate $120 or more (the cost to save a pig from Heifer International), and we’ll send a beautiful framed photo representing the pig and or other farmed animals who are saved.
The cost to save a cow is $500 (based on Heifer International). We also have a $1,000 Save-a-Farm option. All donations in-between happily accepted.
The Organizations You’ll Support
Helping Animals India
Help Animals India (HAI) is an all-volunteer charity dedicated to supporting efficient and effective animal protection organizations in India. Despite some of the best animal protection laws in the world and a renowned heritage of reverence for life, modern India is a country where millions of animals suffer severe neglect or abuse with overpopulation, poverty, pollution, apathy, and ignorance contributing to their plight. HAI provides financial and practical assistance where it can make the most difference. HAI not only achieves immediate benefits for India’s animals but also nurtures an enduring culture of animal protectionism in Indian society.
Neighbors Opposed to Backyard Slaughter
Concerned community members in Oakland have come together to oppose a city policy that would allow for livestock animals to be raised and slaughtered in their city. Animal “farms” with slaughter hobbyists could proliferate in backyards or on abandoned lots around the city. We are working hard to sway this precedent in our favor.
Peaceful Prairie Sanctuary
Located in Deer Trail, Colorado, Peaceful Prairie Sanctuary is home to hundreds of animals that have been rescued from the meat, egg and dairy industry. In addition to the care they provide to all their residents, Peaceful Prairie engages in vegan advocacy as a means to reduce the amount of animal suffering on today’s factory farms and provide educational materials on the reality of “humane” meat.

The Animals You’ll Save
Save-a-Chicken
Chickens enjoy being together in small flocks, frequently taking sunbaths and regular dust baths to keep their feathers in good condition. They have excellent full-color vision and highly developed hearing that enables them to recognize the location and identity of other members of the flock. A mother hen will fiercely protect her young brood, driving off predators and sheltering her chicks beneath her wings. The rooster keeps watch over the flock. He alerts the hens if he senses danger, and he calls them when he finds food.
Save-a-Pig
Pigs are extremely intelligent (more than dogs). A pig’s bristles gives little protection against the cold and they easily overheat (they do not have sweat glands, despite the saying “sweat like a pig”). In hot weather, pigs will cool off by wallowing in ponds, streams, or mud (if these resources are available).
Save-a-Cow
Cows are social animals that would naturally live in herds. They have strong bonds with the other cows, especially their calves. If separated early, both mother and calf cry for each other for days or more. In addition to medical care, it takes about 70kg of grass in an 8-hour day for a cow to maintain a healthy weight.
